Lionfish Hunter

1 Day - 2 Dives

08:30am - 5:00pm

$215,-

The Lionfish Hunter course is designed for divers who want to actively contribute to protecting the Caribbean reef ecosystem while learning a unique and exciting underwater skill. Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and, because they have very few natural predators in the region, their population can grow rapidly and negatively impact local marine life and reef health.

During this course, divers will learn how to safely and responsibly hunt lionfish while minimizing any disturbance to the reef and surrounding marine environment. The program combines knowledge development with practical underwater training, teaching participants about lionfish behavior, environmental awareness, safe hunting techniques, and proper handling procedures for these venomous fish.

Students will also become familiar with the specialized equipment used during lionfish hunting, including the use of pole spears and containment devices such as the Zookeeper™. Before entering the water, instructors will explain how to safely avoid lionfish stings and how to react in the unlikely event of an injury.

The course includes two training dives focused on actively hunting lionfish under the supervision of a professional instructor. After the dives, participants will also learn how to safely clean and prepare lionfish while correctly handling the venomous spines.

Throughout the experience, divers not only gain new underwater skills and confidence, but also play an important role in helping protect local reefs and marine biodiversity.

After successfully completing the course, participants will receive a Lionfish Hunter certification card and become part of the ongoing effort to help keep caribbean reefs healthy and balanced.
